The Curl Company Product Review

The Curl Company Product Review

eleanor j'adore - the curl company review

Shortly after having arrived in the UK I was contacted by the South African PR agency for Creightons Professional The Curl Company with a press release regarding the launch of the product in South Africa. A little bit annoyed that I had literally missed this new product scoop by a matter of weeks, I quickly did some research and was delighted to find out that it is in fact an English brand and so I was able to arrange to get my hands on them over here.

Now in the interest of serving all my curly girls who are still searching for their holy grail product, this range might just be it. Here’s why.

  • The line consists of 8 products from washing and conditioning all the way through to styling so if you’re the type to only use one brand for your cleansing and styling process you can do so with this range.
  • The products are all really affordable. If you don’t find it that affordable, just purchase a couple of products in the range and see how they work for you before you spend money on the rest.
  • The entire range is easily accessible – in SA it’s available at Clicks and in the UK it’s available at Boots.
  • The products are colour safe, so if you have dyed hair, you should be in good hands.
  • The range is suitable for curls, waves and coils! How amazing is that? So often we are under the impression that a product can only work for one hair type, but in this instance the brand actually tells us that it’s suitable for all curls.
  • Lastly, they all smell amazing – a very light floral scent.

The official press release states that the products contain a blend of Moringa Oil and Meadowfoam, and that they’ve been “specifically formulated by hair experts to cleanse, enhance and define curls and waves.”

So now that we all have the facts covered, let me tell you how they actually worked on my mane.

Shampoo and Conditioner

eleanor j'adore - the curl company review

I haven’t washed my hair with a shampoo so incredibly moisturising in a long time. In fact the only other shampoo I can think of that I fell in love with as much as this one is the one over here. I feel it’s important to state here that the shampoo and conditioner are both sulphate free, and none of the products contain any parabens. This is definitely a contributing factor to the hydrating and moisturising effect the shampoo has on my hair. I mean, when was the last time I could actually detangle this here hair with a shampoo? But just because it’s gentle doesn’t mean it it’s not effective when it comes to cleansing. I would shampoo and rinse once, and with the second shampoo I’d work work up a nice foamy lather, massage my scalp, rinse and be left with both a clean scalp and hair.

It retails at R119.95.

The conditioner works really great and is also moisturising. It’s probably not the best conditioner I’ve ever used, but to be fair it’s pretty decent as it does contain a good amount of slip and I’m able to detangle all these curls without the need to add additional oil for extra slip.

For those of you who like to co-wash it works great for that as well. I tried it a couple of times and it gets the job done, retailing at R119.95.

Deep Conditioning Curl Masque

eleanor j'adore - the curl company review

Us naturally curly haired girls love a good deep conditioning session, don’t we? And rightly so. This curl masque works really well to provide intense hydration to my hair. After each and every time I’ve used it, I honestly felt like it’s lived up to what it promises on the packaging: that it defines my curls and provides deep conditioning for super hydration. Because I’ve been pressed for time lately, I’d actually just leave the masque on for about 5 minutes in the shower after I’ve washed my hair and let the heat from the steam help the conditioner to penetrate my strands. Needless to say detangling was a lot easier which left my curls super smooth with minimal frizz.

Price-wise I think it’s a little bit steep at R199.95.

Curl Defining Leave-in Conditioner

eleanor j'adore - the curl company review

One of the questions I receive the most from my readers is what leave-in conditioner I recommend,  because there just aren’t that many easily accessible leave-ins available on the shelves in SA. Well, the next time I get asked this question I’ll put this little baby forward. For me a good leave-in conditioner and some oil are all that’s needed to create a really sleek wash and go or even a stretched style. Unfortunately, the lack we’ve experienced in SA has meant that many a natural has been left without this, in my opinion, essential styling product. Why essential? Firstly it provides extra moisture to the hair which means the style will last longer. It reduces frizz, which again means the style will last longer and it defines curls. And c’mon let’s face it, who doesn’t love defined curls, kinks and waves.

At R119.95, this leave-in is probably my favourite from all the products.

Enhance & Perfect Curl Cream and Shape & Define Styling Crème-Gel

eleanor j'adore - the curl company review

If you’re looking for styling products that are light and won’t hold your hair down these two are it. I love the texture of both and I find that even when I use a generous amount of each of them, they both leave my hair incredibly defined but not at all greasy or weighed down. So if you have fine hair and looking for products that are going to provide you with nice definition and hold I think these two could work really well for you. The crème-gel doesn’t leave my hair hard either, something that I’m usually weary of when it comes to using gels.

The curl cream retails for R129.95 and the crème-gel for R109.95.

In my case, even though my individual strands are very fine, my hair still benefits from a light application of my beloved coconut oil, just to help seal in all the moisture. So typically this would be my styling routine:

  1. Leave-in conditioner
  2. Coconut oil
  3. Curl cream and/or crème-gel
  4. Once my hair has dried, I’d add another tiny bit of oil for shine.

Let me know, would you try this range?

Hi Eleanor, i got these products at Clicks over the weekend. So i got the Leave-In Conditioner, Curl cream and the styling creme gel. i must say the leave-in is pretty amazing and makes detangling a breeze. My curls are soft and defined. i will definitely recommend the leave-in conditioner.

i used a little bit of each and i agree with you, its lightweight and the slip is great and the gel doesn’t leave a hard crunchy curl. its super soft.

Saw these at Clicks at V & A, glad I googled them and found your review. It’s super helpful. I was wondering if I could ask you some further questions, I have fine, dense, high porosity – therefore frizzy – mostly 4a/b (with some 3c curls tosssed in) hair and have finally found a shampoo(aussie frizz miracle shampoo)/deep conditioner(Hask keratin smoothing conditioner)/ conditioner(aussie frizz miracle conditioner) combo that leaves my hair moisturised and reduces my frizzy (relatively speaking) as well as gives me some amazing curl definition without styling product, but I’m looking for some stylers that would hold the curls and prevent frizz from returning. Right now I’m using mizani coconut souffle as a leave in and then doing a weekly protective style, but when winter finally ends I’d like to go back to doing wash and goes (my scalp prefers them) Do you think the creightons leave in and creme-gel would suit?

Thanks again for the review, it’s great to have found a fellow curly girl.

Thanks for the review. Finally got my hands on this product ( a year later hahaha) and I’m really impressed. I also got the “curl reviving spray”. And it’s great for “in between washes” days.
    Thanks again
